About
Us
Bertie's Diner was founded by three business partners (Robert
Lacey, Jackie Deaves, Danny Lacey) in 2006 with Danny leaving
the business as part of a management buy out. Bertie's Diner is
now a partnership between Robert (Bertie) and Jackie, both having
extensive catering experience after owning a mobile catering unit
in Gildersome for four years and a fresh food takeaway in the
centre of Leeds.
The mobile unit was such a great success that they decided to
expand and grow the business. They knew that Morley was an area
undergoing major redevelopment with lots of new faces coming to
town. The idea was to open a themed place for locals to eat. A
fun place to eat, meet and drink. A shop became available opposite
Blockbuster Video and the plan was put into action. The original
four partners and founders of Bertie's Diner, along with the help
of family and friends, began the redevelopment of the shop. Fifteen
weeks later and the 50s Rock n Roll Diner you are familiar with
today was born.
If you are wondering where the name 'Bertie's' came from, let
me inform you. Robert Lacey, one half of the business partnership,
was nicknamed Bertie Basset by his family many years ago (for
reasons unsure) and the name has stuck ever since. The original
partners thought that it would make a great fun name for the Diner,
Robert is a larger than life character and has been adopted as
the Diner's 'mascot' (laugh out loud).
